Lyle Berkowitz, MD, FHIMSS is a practicing internal medicine physician, a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine with the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and the Medical Director of Clinical Information Systems for the largest primary care group in the city of Chicago. Dr. Berkowitz regularly writes and speaks on clinical informatics topics and is a contributing author to the American College of Physicians' book "Electronic Medical Records." He serves on the editorial board for Healthcare Informatics magazine, is a board member of the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS), and is a Fellow in the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Additionally, Dr. Berkowitz is an independent consultant and is the founder and program director for the Szollosi Healthcare Innovation Program (www.TheSHIPHome.org), a charitable endeavor with a mission to use creative thinking and diverse technologies to produce a better healthcare experience for patients, physicians and others associated with their care. In 2008, HealthLeaders magazine highlighted Dr. Berkowitz as part of their annual Twenty People Who Make Healthcare Better, a list of “individuals who are making a difference in today’s complex healthcare world."
